Wednesday 7th – 13th October, New York, USA

Our first day in NY was a pretty damn good start to our time in the city and it certainly set the tone for things to come. After checking into our hotel, we strolled along Central Park to 5th Avenue and we celebrated my 32nd birthday with a bottle of champagne and dinner at Jean Georges.
The next day, Courtnay (my cousin) arrived to kick off a week of drinking, eating, shopping and every now and then a little site seeing..... In summary:
Shopping: If New York is the shopping mecca of the world, I was there to pay homage and pray that the global financial crisis would provide deliverance. It did. The dollar was riding high and I was making up for 9 months of very limited shopping... so it was no surprise that the credit card was pushed to new limits and several boxes had to be sent back to Australia.
Eating: Food went from one extreme to another. From fine dining, to eating an American fat breakfast,(which consists of pancakes with eggs, bacon and maple syrup and a cup of refillable percolated coffee on the side. We ate at Pastis, a place to see and be seen, to dinner at Franks (where you can barely even see), for homemade pasta! We also enjoyed dinner at a New York steakhouse with our friends Marie and Mike, consuming possibly the largest steak ever!
Site-seeing: There is nothing more “New York” than “Sex &the City” and the absolute highlight of my week (can’t speak for Rich) was having the second Sex & the City film, being shot at our hotel. That, and the fact that Sarah Jessica Parker said hello to me! Whilst site-seeing in New York wasn’t high on the agenda, we did manage to sneak in a visit to the Frick museum, a walk along the High Line, a visit to the Top of the Rock, a tour to Harlem and a Broadway show. Phew....
I love New York city and it was very sad to leave. The only consolation was that we were heading towards more good times in Vegas!
