Friday 27th– 31th May, Tuscanny, Italy (via Bologna!)

I am sad to leave Venice, but Rich can’t wait. He’s already programmed the Navman to detour via Bologna for spaghetti bolognese (ragu with tagliatelle). Bologna is an interesting medieval city with beautiful stone covered walkways. But its 1pm, business time, so we head to a little restaurant to devour our first Bolognese in Italy. It’s fabulous...and washed down with a glass of red, but we both agree – not as good as our mum’s!
After Bologna we make our way to Tuscany where we spend the next 5 days. When we finally arrive at our villa (after travelling down narrow Tuscan streets being rear ended by crazy Italian drivers) we have to pinch ourselves. The villa is amazing with antique furniture and a picture postcard view overlooking the vineyard below and olive filled hills! We celebrate being in Tuscany by heading to the nearest RSL like building to watch Manchester United vs Barcelona! Despite the romantic setting, I don’t mind because I’m devouring arguably the best pizza I have ever tasted and retail therapy awaits me the following morning!
Over the next few days, we spend time lazing by the pool, walking around the hills and visiting nearby Florence. It’s a luxury to spend 5 nights in one place after all of our travelling. In Florence we visit the Duomo, the Uffizzi gallery & the Bargello museum. It is amazing... we’re surrounded by masterpieces by the likes of Michelangelo, Caravaggio & Botticelli.
Our time in Tuscany is capped off by enjoying the most spectacular sunset we have ever seen with a bottle of local wine and cheese! Words can’t describe it.
