Pulling ourselves away from the pool at the Marmara Hotel was more difficult than you can imagine, and it didn’t help that the next part our trip was a three hour bus ride to Kusadasi. I knew nothing about Kusadasi, but it had been described to me as Turkey’s solution to the Gold Coast and it was very apparent why when we drove through amusement parks, neon lights and a heaving force of tourists!
The next morning we woke early to join a day tour of Ephesus and Pumakale, however after an hour’s wait, it became apparent that our day was going to be a little different to what we had in mind. A bus full of unhappy tourists turned up and we were told by our driver that we were only able to see Ephesus which turned out to be a blessing in disguise as we had a wonderful day taking our time crawling over the ruins. The bonus to the amended tour was an undisclosed visit to a carpet co-operative.... one expensive Turkish carpet later we made our way back to the hotel to catch our evening flight to Istanbul with Ness and Lou!
