Our 5 hour bus ride to Belize City took us through Northern Belize and as soon as we crossed the border the change from Latino to Caribbean style cultures was evident. Tiny Belize (population just 300,000) is the only central American country whose official language is English and the country is a big melting pot of many cultures with a strong Caribbean / Creole influence. Belize City was the starting point for our kayaking tour of the southern reefs. It was an interesting start as we turned up to find no guide, and no hotel booked and only one other person (our, soon-to-be, good friend Silvia from Switzerland) on the tour! :)
