Feb 25th - 28th, Zambia

Wednesday 25th Feb: Victoria Falls
It's day three and we're struggling with the time difference (5 movies on the flight over might have something to do with it!). It didn't feel like we were actually away until we flew over Livingstone and saw the "smoke" of the Victoria Falls. It's rainy season at the moment and the water is high which means that a huge cloud of vapour is hovering over the area. It is spectacular and you can't imagine the power of the falls until you feel the vibrations in your body and the rainfall as the water splashes back upwards hundreds of feet after hitting the river.
We've just joined a tour group, made up of 5 Aussies and Canadians. On our first day we visited a Lion conservation park and walked with two 8 month old cubs. We got to pat them and their coat is surprisingly coarse and you know that at any moment if they wanted to hurt you they could. They are such beautiful animals and it was an amazing experience. We also saw elephant, hippo's, impala, baboon and a giraffe! Tommorrow we go rafting down the Zambesi river... some people have said that it can be scarier than bungey jumping! FINGERS CROSSED!
Thursday 26th Feb: Victoria Falls
We headed into Livingstone for our first bit of souvenir hunting ..... Sav kept the shopkeepers guessing by expressing interest in just about every carving they had. Then we headed to see the majestic Victoria Falls. We went prepared, just in our swimmers, as the awesome power of the falls generates so much mist that within minutes we were soaked from head to toe (a nice relief from the heat). Back to the campsite for beers around the pool.
Friday 27th Feb: White water rafting

Rafting down the mighty Zambezi river with the rest of the guys from our tour was a lot of fun and the 45 minute walk down the gorge on stick ladders certainly made it even more of an adventure. We managed to flip the boat and Sav got trapped under it! Along with the wasp sting on her face the other day, she's off to a good start.
Saturday 28th Feb: Zambia to Botswana

We left Zambia yesterday before dawn as we had to catch a ferry across the border into Botswana and spent a lazy day in the local town (warthog walking through the main street ... as they do) and around the pool at the campsite drinking cold beer and relaxing. A theme seems to be emerging but I can’t quite put my finger on it ..... I’ll give it some more thought over a couple of cold beers on the river cruise tomorrow.
